What it is
Understanding behaviors like excessive barking and reluctance to drop toys tests patience. Here comes in the drop it or done command.
How we teach it
- Introduction Phase: During familiar activities, like playing with a toy, clearly say "done" while your dog holds the toy.
- Distraction-Free Environment: Ensure no distractions for focused training; teaching phase duration varies, typically days to weeks.
- Reinforcement: Promptly reward with "good" or a clicker when the dog drops the toy, then give treats or praise, and return the toy for reinforcement.
- Repetition and Patience: Consistently practice during play: repeat the command, mark, reward, and continue play to reinforce obedience.
Practice at home
- Always remember to hold your dog accountable: for the "done" or “drop it” commands. If they don't follow through, apply a correction.
- Take Photos or Videos: Capturing your progress back at home or outside will help us provide additional feedback.
